This week's edition of The Variety Party, was not only, the most unprepared I've ever been for a show, but very much, embarrassingly so. I speak of it briefly on the program, but I'll explain in a bit more detail here in the show notes. The Cookie Jar, which is the program that airs before mine on Fridays, has gotten in the habbit, of making the first Friday of the month, Game Day, where a game is played on the program. I love this, and all the way back in February of this year, I made extra sure, to get my show ready early, so I could join in. However, that was also the day, while in the middle of playing the game that I had wanted us to play, I received a call from my mom. Not only did she have groceries for me, but that was when I found out my landlord had called my brother, and was threatening to evict me, if I didn't get my temper under control. I had to stop playing the game, and was just lucky we finished up the game we had been playing, so my brother and I could have a conversation, that left me feeling, pretty upset afterwards. That day is one that sticks out in my memory, for all the wrong reasons, and on top of that, every first Friday of the month, since February of 2026, I didn't get stuff prepared early enough, so had to forego game day, to prepare for The Variety Party. Fast forward, to August, 2026, the date of the show these notes are for, and finally, somebody else besides me, is wanting to try out the game, Exploding Kittens, on RS Games. Seems whenever I bring up this game with anybody else, nobody wants to check it out. The people of the ACB Community claim it's evil. And seems I practically, have to bribe just about anybody else to play it with me. So once I was made aware that somebody else, not me, is wanting to play this game, I felt I'd better take my chance to play while I could. However, I knew I had a show to prepare for, plus, my sleep schedule hasn't been on the greatest set of hours this week, completely throwing me off. It also didn't help I was hungry for lunch upon awakening, craving mini corndogs, pepperjack Cheezits, Coke, and a Hostest chocolate cupcake, all of which, I now had on hand, thanks to receiving them in my groceries on Thursday, so had lunch. Realizing I wasn't going to be able to get the show put together, and play, I was going to leave, and see if Monty would go play with Evil Chocolate Cookie and her crew, but he wasn't sure how to play, and begged me to help him play. Alright, fine. In the end, a new game had to be started, because my leaving the first game, caused it to freeze, so a new game got created, Monty became the game master, and, up until 15 minutes before my show started, that's literally, what I spent, my Friday afternoon, doing. Playing Exploding Kittens on RS Games, while slowly eating my lunch in the studio. In between turns towards the end, I put together the beginning of the show, but with having to help Monty play, I didn't have much opportunity to work on my playlist in between turns. Oh yeah, and did Timothy, Stephanie, Herbie Allen, and Nick from Santabarbra, all join in and play? No, of course not. Had they all joined in to play, I might have had more time in between taking my turn, and helping Monty take his turn, to have actually put stuff together. You are all, very bad people, for being so ignorant all afternoon, but whatever, I digress. At the start of the show, I barely had anything in my playlist, cuing and preparing the request line voicemails, as the show progressed, to the point where, during my voice break to begin The Life of the Party Segment, I was literally, editing the next voicemail to play, while I was talking to everybody. A listener even called into my request line, trying to distract me, but that did fail. In the end, everybody's requests got played, and there were no long gaps of dead air, due to an empty playlist or unchecked tracks in Station Playlist Studio, but as a result of receiving long disco song requests from Herbie Allen, and Christopher Maddocks not even sending in his requests, until practically halfway through the program, there ended up not being a Flashback Hour in the end, but I did make a small compromise for the final 20 to 25 minutes of the program, and did at least play Stephanie's requests that I had promised her back on Tuesday, when time during The Flash Drive, most definitely, didn't allow me to fulfill her requests at that time, given she wanted a triple play, as in, the entire, El Paso trilogy. I still went over by an additional 4 to 5 minutes, but by the end of the show, things had smoothed out tramendously, I calmed down, and the show was successful in the end. I'm going to have to plan better and make better choices in the future, so something like this, doesn't happen again, but that's a story for another day, and something, I'll have to work on in the background, behind the scenes. The Flash Drive For August 04, 2026

On this week's edition of The Flash Drive, I played the usual variety of music, including several listener requests, and I did this, while eating my lunch, which took me roughly 2 thirds of the show to finish. There was a Beat the Intro contest, where not only did I get a winner relatively quickly, but they called my request line to submit their answer, and while traveling on a train, which can be hit or miss, where cellular reception is concerned. Thankfully, they didn't lose their connection, and as a result, congratulations to Monty, for winning this week's round, of the Beat the Intro contest! He has chosen an audio described movie, which will be aired, on next Tuesday's edition, of The Flash Drive, airing Tuesday, August 11, 2026! The Save, or Delete, that was featured on today's program, also received positive results, everybody who voted during the program, voted, to save, it. Finally, there was The 80's and 90's Hour, and Sheena Easton, was this week's 80's and 90's Artist Spotlight, and, given I had never played any of her 90's material before, it received positive feedback. The Variety Party, Slumber Party Fiesta, Featuring ACB 2026 Karaoke Night Originals For July 31, 2026

Back on Tuesday of this week, I was contacted, by the ghost, of Monty, who sent me no less than 9 voice messages to my request line, giving me, an interesting idea, for an edition, of The Variety Party. Play the songs, or as many as would fit and could be recognized, that were performed, at the Live, karaoke night event, that took place, during the 2026 ACB conference and convention, at the Hiat Hotel, in Saint Louis, Missouri. Liking this idea, and seeing that Monty did provide me with a recording he made of the event, I decided to attempt this idea. In the end, there were 35 songs performed at the event, and I was able to find 29 of them. So I went through the recording, and using a combination of recognizing the backing tracks, Siri quearies, where possible, and understanding enough of the lyrics to search for songs by lyric recognition on Spotify, I was able to piece this playlist together, playing the songs, in the order, in which they were performed, at the event. I made comments on the performances that I checked out via the recording, and I did talk about my week at the bottom of the first hour of the show. There was no, Life of the Party Segment, and no Flashback Hour, though there were a few tunes throughout the program, that would have most definitely, fit, The Flashback Hour, had there been one on tonight's show. Finally, the program closed, with the one song, that Monty enjoyed, at another event he attended for the first time, because he was invited by a friend, where people sang gospel songs, very creatively called, Gospel Sings. I enjoyed putting on this program, and the listeners who interacted with me during the show, seemed to enjoy the songs as well. I had fun doing this show, and while some of the songs that stumped me, nearly drove me mad, because I recognized them, or at least, one of them, couldn't place my finger on the title and artist, I was amazed I figured out more than what Monty recognized at the event. In the end, I had a lot of fun putting on this show, and depending on how many more ACB conference and convention karaoke night events Monty attends, and is able to record in full, this theme, could possibly, become an annual tradition, every summer, most likely at some point during the month of July, post the ACB convention's conclusion. The Flash Drive Special, Featuring The Album, Tuckagee, By Lionel Richie For July 28, 2026

This week, on The Flash Drive, in honor of having 2 winners, of my festive Christmas in July round, of Beat the Intro, on last week's show, Monty, and Herbie Allen, who both guessed the title and artist of the song, sharing the prize, because one of them, correctly guessed the title, while the other, correctly guessed the artist, they agreed to share a prize, and chose the album, Tuckagee, by Lionel Richie. His last studio album to be released in 2012, featuring updated versions of songs he released in the 1970's and 1980's, both, with The Commodores, and as a solo artist, now redone, as duets with various Country artists. This album was played in full, taking up the first hour of the program. Post its conclusion, the rest of the show featured, Save, or Delete, and several requests that were sent in beforehand, some of which, were held over to this week, because they didn't fit last week's Christmas in July theme. Amongst the requests, there were, a Compare the Difference, as well as, a Same Title, Different Song! Finally, during the 50 minutes that took up what ended up being the slightly abridged, 80's and 90's Hour, I featured Kenny Rogers, as this week's 80's and 90's Artist Spotlight, since he performed with Lionel Richie on one of the songs on the featured album. Though to be fair, the artist featured as today's Save, or Delete, also performed with Lionel Richie on the featured album as well. The show flew by, way too fast, but it's no surprise, given that one third of it, was taken up by an album. I did have a lot of fun putting on the show, and was very glad to be inside, since there were thunder storms and a heavy downpour occurring, during the final hour of the program.
